Health Care Access Clinic's mission is to help facilitate access to health services for Douglas County residents with limited financial means who are not covered by private or governmental insurance programs. Throughout two decades of service to Douglas County, we have provided primary care services, referrals to specialists, prescription medication, and health education to over 14,000 of our friends and neighbors, without incurring debt and without federal funding.

Over the past years people like you have helped:

  • keep workers without insurance healthy and at work
  • reduce non-emergent use of the hospital Emergency Room
  • keep families healthy by managing treatable diseases and helping to avoid medical bankruptcy

In spite of these achievements, demand for services is higher than ever before and we face greater challenges to provide continuing care for our patients who have limited means. The majority of Health Care Access Clinic's patients are employed yet still lack insurance coverage and basic access. A $10 clinic fee is requested from our patients, but, in keeping with our mission, no one is ever denied care due to their inability to pay. The wait for scheduled appointments has grown from five weeks in January of 2009 to nine weeks today. Walk-in appointments are first-come, first-served each day and those are booked within 10 minutes of opening our doors each morning.

Even with all of these pressures we have been able to increase the return on our donors' investment and provide more services. Just think about it: every $1 donation allows us to provide $7 worth of essential medical care for patients who have no other way to obtain it. Our partnership with Lawrence Memorial Hospital and numerous volunteers, including over 140 local medical providers, allow us to turn a $500,000 budget into over $4 million in services. We are very proud of that!

Your partnership is an essential element of our success, and very valuable in assuring Health Care Access Clinic remains a community treasure, taking care of its members and providing affordable health care to those who need it, without the red tape.

We invite you to become a partner in health and support the local health care solution that has been in place for over 20 years. Your participation in this event makes a difference in the lives of more of the 14,000 uninsured children and families in Lawrence and Douglas County. With your involvement we will continue to serve the community, to make it healthier and more productive, and to improve the quality of life for all of us here at home.
